The East Region Soccer League (ERSL)

The Cataraqui Clippers field competitive teams in the East Region Soccer League (ERSL). The ERSL founded in 2002 is one of 4 Regional Leagues within Ontario, and it serves two Districts, EODSA (Ottawa area) and SOSA (Kingston area). Future plans are to invite Renfrew County to the ERSL. This area is part of the SNE District.

The ERSL offers three levels of play in which the Clippers field teams.

Level 3 - Regional divisions (highest level)
Level 4 - Premier divisions
Level 5 - 1st divisions (lowest level)

Level 3 (formerly Regional)
Regional divisions are offered for boys and girls in the age groups under 12 to under 18, and for men and women at the under 21 age group. The champions of the boys and girls divisions are eligible for promotion to the Ontario Youth Soccer League.

Level 4  (formerly Premier and Division 1)
In 2004 we introduced a Multi Jurisdictional District League for the teams in the EODSA and SOSA districts who play at the level below the Regional Divisions. These teams will play in either the Premier or 1st Divisions. The Premier and 1st Divisions are for the age groups under 10 to under 18.

Level 5 (formerly Division 1)
At this level Clippers teams compete within the Southeast Ontario Soccer Association (SOSA) for ages U10 to U15.  SOSA is one of 21 affiliated districts with The Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) acting as a branch association with the defined boundaries of Hastings, Prince Edward, Lennox -Addington, Frontenac and Leeds Counties.  This is the entry level for competitive play within the Ontario Soccer Association's Pyramid of Play.

There is promotion and relegation between the different levels of the ERSL.

SOSA Select U9

The SOSA U9 Select league competes in SOSA East, Central and West areas with a year end tournament which includes all SOSA areas.

Cup Competitions

East Region Cup and East Region Shield

Founded in 2004 (ER Cup) and 2005 (ER Shield), the Cup and Shield are a season long, single game, knockout competition open to all ERSL teams. The ER Cup is open to Premier and Regional teams from U10 to U18, and Division 1 teams above U14. The ER Shield is only open to Division 1 teams from U10 to U14. With the exception of the U17/18 Cup final, which is hosted by ERSL and played in August, all Cup finals will be played on the 3rd Saturday in September. All Shield finals will played on the 3rd Sunday in September.

Pyramid of Play

The ERSL has a strong emphasis on development for both players and referees. By being part of the OSA Pyramid of Play, we can offer players an opportunity to improve his or her skills to play at a higher level. We also encourage our senior referees to mentor those with less experience.

The ERSL is affiliated and governed to the Ontario Soccer Association.

Call-Up Policy

From now on for all player call-ups at the L3 or L4 Level the following process will be applied:

  • Coaches must make a written email request to the coach involved and copy the technical director (tdirector@clipperssoccer.com) on the request.  All ongoing communication will include the technical director.
  • Calling a player up provides the opportunity of ongoing development of a player.  There is almost no reason for a player not to be cleared for playing up.  However, if the coach of the team the player is being called up from feels there is a legitimate reason,  they are to forward that reason to the technical director for consideration.
